About Swartland Winery and Malmesbury November 06, 2008

Swartland Winery, where I work, is located just outside of Malmesbury. It’s a small town, established in 1743 around a mineral spring. It is recorded that when the first church was built, in 1745, the population of Malmesbury numbered 24. It’s a quiet little place but there are some good restaurants and pubs, not only in the town itself, but also in the surrounding area.

As for wildlife around the Swartland vineyards, we have small antelope, the odd mongoose, and small wild cats. Baboons can sometimes be a bit of a nuisance, as they are quite partial to grapes. But damage from these animals is minimal. Birds, though, can be a bit of a problem.
