I don’t remember my first glass of wine. Wine has been, for as long as I can remember, a part of my life. It also plays a significant role in the life of my family—my wife, Marinda, and our two sons, Johan, who’s 12 years old, and Andries Jr., who’s 8 years old. I think they enjoy my being a winemaker as there are many opportunities for them to be involved in the business (but they like it a lot less during the harvest period when I am away for long hours!).
Together, when work in the vineyards allows, we enjoy fishing and camping. I love fishing. I own a boat and whenever I can find the time, I’m out at sea, fishing for something to put in the pan. My family and I love the great South African outdoors and we take a camping holiday in the wilds every year.
