2007 Sebeka® Shiraz-Pinotage "Cape Blend"

Receiving prestigious accolades in nine different wine competitions, 2008 was an award-winning year for the 2007 Sebeka South Africa Shiraz-Pinotage “Cape Blend.” The Pinotage grape, South Africa’s signature varietal, is a hybrid of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, containing distinguishable fruit aromas and adding smoky elements to blends. This fruit-forward wine combines the jammy blackberry, dark cherry, and spice of Shiraz with the intense berry notes, acidity, and smoky earth notes of Pinotage, creating a complex and layered wine of great character. Cape Blend is well-balanced and pairs easily with various rich foods, such as: duck, tomato-based pastas, and dark chocolate. Drink at time of purchase or age in the bottle for 2-3 years.

The 2007 Sebeka South Africa Shiraz-Pinotage “Cape Blend” used grapes grown in shale, granite, and iron-rich soils of the Worcester and Swartland regions of the Western Cape. After carefully hand harvesting and de-stemming Shiraz and Pinotage grapes, they were crushed, pressed and fermented separately in upright stainless steel tanks to emphasize youthful fruit flavors. After undergoing fermentation at 28°C for three days on the skins to intensify color and taste, the lots underwent complete malolactic fermentation to produce a buttery flavor. Blake tasted the final wines and selected the perfect blend to create an intense burgundy wine that exemplifies the vibrant, robust, and voluptuous style of South Africa, while still maintaining a soft and velvety mouthfeel supported by a supple tannin structure.
